Environment required to install the WordPress CMS

  • PHP 7.4 and newer;
  • MySQL 5.7, MariaDB 10.2 and newer;
  • We recommend installing an SSL certificate to display your site in HTTPS (at a minimum : Let's Encrypt - free);
  • Any type of LAMP server can do the job (Aqua One, Aqua Pro, VPS, dedicated server).

We recommend, for a professional project, to install your site on a VPS (at least: 1 vCPU - 2 GB RAM - 50 GB storage). This gives you greater freedom to configure the underlying services that are fixed on a shared hosting.

To ensure the sustainability of your site, here are some tips to secure your Wordpress:

To ensure the sustainability of your site, here are some tips to secure your Wordpress:

  • Delete the default Admin account and change your login (admin) to something more complex ;
  • Change your password at installation, then regularly ;
  • Do not share your identifiers, prefer the creation of separate user accounts;
  • Never give your usernames and passwords;
  • Don't give the role of "Editor" (let alone your FTP access) to someone you don't trust;
  • Install a firewall on your server for added protection;
  • To upload the files to your WordPress site, use a reliable FTP client (FileZilla for example) ;
  • Avoid using Wordpress' internal email function (prefer an external source);
  • Include a backup of the site and its database (included in Aqua One, Aqua Pro and Managed Servers packages);
  • Check the quality of the extensions (plug-ins), themes used (look at the notes and comments before installing them and watch the update dates);
  • Regularly update the extensions / plug-ins used ;
  • Install the wp-config.php file in the parent folder of your ;
  • Delete the readme.html file (you will find it at the root of your site) ;
  • Write protect wp-config.php and .htacess files (apply permissions like 644)
  • Hide your version: You should also hide the version number given in \"meta name\". To do this, use the file function.php (present in /wp-content/themes/Your-Child-Theme) and add this piece of code: remove_action("wp_head", "wp_generator");
    You can also prevent the RSS feed from displaying the WordPress version with the following function:
    function wpt_remove_version() {
    return;
    }
    add_filter('the_generator', wpt_remove_version');
  • Add secret security keys to the wp-config.php file: If you have already installed a WordPress site on your own, you should have noticed some special code in your wp-config.php file (which contains the necessary configurations for WordPress to work properly). This section of the configuration file is a SALT authentication key that creates an identification cookie that protects your installation;
  • Hide login errors: When you make a mistake entering your password or login, WordPress will gently guide you and point out what's wrong. So avoid hacking by removing this feature.
