A DDoS is a computer attack aiming at making a service or a server unavailable. The attacker overloads the server to saturation point, flooding it with requests that are too numerous to be processed efficiently. In this way, he makes the website unavailable for a variable period of time.

These attacks can take on a more or less significant scale and can lead to a loss of productivity, income and especially credibility for the victims. Indeed, these attacks are often publicized in the media and the public, poorly informed, may interpret them as a form of « hacking » and fear for the security of their data.

How to protect yourself?
In order to protect themselves from this type of attack several solutions exist, the most common and the one that Aqua Ray has chosen, is the use of an external provider.
Since 2019, Volterra is the provider of anti DDoS protective solutions that Aqua Ray has chosen.

How do they do it?
When an attack is detected by Volterra's filters, a system called: mitigation is activated.This system allows to separate, with the help of machines hosted in the different points of presence of Volterra, the legitimate traffic (people coming to visit the services hosted by Aqua Ray), from the illegitimate traffic (DDoD attacks). Thanks to these filtering machines, customers can continue to access their services, and are not impacted by the attack.
Volterra is an important partner for Aqua Ray. In partnership with their technical team, Aqua Ray was able to write filters (that sort out the accepted and rejected entries) to match the DDoS attack that occurred in December.
